Not another crack! Crank case cracked and engine needs to be replaced
The bad luck continues. After everything this plane has been through already (propeller overhaul, cracked exhaust headers, flapping oil doors, etc.), I was hoping my annual inspection in March would go nice and smoothly. Sadly, it wasn’t mean to be. My AME, Mo, called me out to the shop to show me a massive crack that meant the entire crankcase needed to be replaced. Given the age of the engine, I decided I’d just replace the engine instead. It’s the safer move, but it means the plane will be down for 4 months while I wait for the rebuilt engine to arrive from Lycoming.
