Oil door flapping in the wind
Mona’s not having much luck with her first few flights. After a nice one down to Niagara, things seemed to revert to the norm, with a problem on every flight she joins me on. This time, I didn’t properly latch the little door on the engine cowl cover that provides access to the oil dipstick. Right after takeoff, the door popped open and starting flapping around, and I had to ask for an immediate return to the field so I could land and close it properly – hoping against hope that it didn’t come off entirely and fly away!
