Follow-up and reactions to my near miss at Sarnia
Wow, did that near-miss video ever get some attention! I had hundreds of comments from pilots and viewers out there, most of whom agreed with my lessons, but also many ripping into the other pilot. That other pilot actually called me up so we could talk further about it, and he was really affected by all the harsh words against him. After that follow-up call, I’m convinced he wasn’t doing anything on purpose, it really was one of those situations where a couple of bad decisions and oversights on both our parts lead to this incident.

I bear no ill will against that other pilot, in fact we ended on really good terms, and I’m looking forward to meeting him someday at another fly-in. The feedback the near-miss video got definitely will make me think twice about what I post and how I post it; some people said some pretty unkind things about him (and a few about me, too), and I gotta say that’s not the kind of attention I’m looking for! I hope you find this incident as instructive as I have.
